German auto-giant BMW has launched the 2014 X5 in the Indian market today at Rs.70.9 Lakh . The X5 will come in one variant, xdrive30d and one trim level, the Design Pure Experience.
The X5 is powered by a 3.0 litre six cylinder diesel engine which produces 258 bhp at 4000 rpm and a whopping 560 Nm of torque from 1500 to 3000 rpm. The power is delivered to all four wheels through an 8 speed auto gearbox. This enables the car to reach a top speed of 230 kmph and cover the 0-100 kmph range in 6.9 seconds. The engine is not a new one and it is presently employed in the 640d as well as the 730Ld.
The body does not seem very different from the older version but BMW assures it is based on a brand new platform. The dimensions of the car stand at 4886 x 2184 x 1762 (L x W x H). The looks haven`t changed very much apart from the bigger headlamps and a bolder double kidney grille. The LED inserts in the headlamps ave taken styling cues from the 3-series.
The car will now be imported through the CKD route unlike the last version, which was imported as a CBU. The car comes in the segment with the Audi Q7 and the Mercedes GL class, but this may be the only segment in which each of these cars has a different customer type. The Q7 is aging now and the X5 will surely try to capture that part of the market as well.
