The new 2015 BMW 2 Series Convertible has been spotted without camouflage testing in Munich, Germany and rumors of its debut later this year at the Paris motor show have started to spark. Earlier we’ve seen the exciting launch of the 2-Series Active Tourerand this time BMW has amazed us with the upcoming 2-Series Convertible spy shots.
A successor to the 1-Series Convertible, the new 2-Series Cabriolet model offers a similar four-seat layout like its predecessor but with an electrically retractable soft top to satisfy the hearts of convertible car lovers that stows away in a compartment between the rear seats and the boot.
The interior for the 2-series cabriolet will resemble to its Coupe edition, which itself borrows interiors heavily from the smallest BMW, BMW 1-series, including the dashboard, front seats and gear switch knob.In terms of dimension, the cabriolet is 4432mm in length, 1774mm in width and 1418mm in height with a 2690mm-long wheelbase, which are very much similar to the 2 series.
As far as power train is concerned, BMW 2-series convertible will be offered with the same turbocharged engines as that of the coupe, a 240-hp four in the 228i and a 3.0 liter inline-six turbocharged giving 320-hp and 332 lf-ft of torque in the M235i. The M235i Convertible should be capable of going from 0-60 in 4.8 seconds when paired with the 8-speed sport automatic transmission.
The car will have two transmission options to choose from, a six-speed manual and an eight-speed automatic. Available in a rear wheel drive transmission but anxDrive all-wheel-drive option can also be offered. The xDrive system is already offered on the 2-Series coupe overseas.
Congruent to 2-series coupe, buyers of the 2-series cabriolet are likely to be able to choose between four individual lines: SE, Sport, Modern and M Sport – the latter standard on the M235i in combination with 18-inch wheels and lowered suspension. Top speed is expected to remain close to close 155mph and mileage can be 32-22(Highway-City) for the 8 speed automatic version and 29-19(Highway-City) for the 6-speed manual.
The main competitions to this mean machine is from Audi A3, Buick Regal, and Mercedes-Benz CLA in the international market. As far as prices are considered, it is expected to remain around $33,025 to $44,025 globally.A debut for the 2-Series Convertible is expected later this year, with sales to commence next spring that is we will most likely see it listed as a 2015 model.
