Maruti Suzuki has started testing their facelift model of the Alto in India. The current model is powered by a 796 cc 3-cylinder 12 valve engine giving 48 PS @ 6000rpm of power and a torque of 69 Nm @ 3500rpm. The engine was specially designed for the Alto 800. Alto 800 is available in four variants and it as expected that the new facelift variant will have the same features in the different segments. However , Alto will now come with a 988 cc K-Next engine.
The car was spotted at the Maruti Suzuki Gurgaon factory with almost no camouflage. The petal headlamps have slightly different shape, front grille has more chrome elements added to it and many more cosmetic features have changed. The most exciting news about the facelift is the engine used; a powerful Celerio engine would be very effective for a car with less weight. A 998 cc engine churns out a maximum power of 69 PS @ 6000rpm and 90 Nm of torque @ 3500 rpm. There are speculations that the new Alto would have an AMT transmission as that used in the Celerio. The car would give a mileage of 24.3 Kmpl with the AMT transmission, just like Celerio.
Maruti Suzuki had marked a milestone by selling 100,000 units of Alto 800 in just 124 days from the dates of its launch. With such achievements the company has planned to bring a facelift version with more power. Alto 800 is said to be replacing the Alto K10 when launched. The current price tag that the Alto 800 has is of 2.38 to 3.49 lakhs but with a powerful engine and AMT transmission the facelift will have a relatively higher price tag than the current model. Customers can choose between an Automatic or manual transmission thereby reducing the price by not opting for an automatic transmission. The launching dates have not yet been disclosed but as all manufacturers do it can be expected on or before Diwali.
