Renault India is getting ready to hit another success story after Duster in the Indian market with its XBA hatchback. The company is preparing a rival for Maruti Alto 800. The new car will be pitched in a segment of entry level hatchback and will come up with AMT on a next generation 800cc petrol motor.
The new car will be based on CMF3 platform and is code-named as Renault ‘A-Hatch’ or XBA and the program shares its underpinnings with Datusun’s upcoming I2 hatchback. The new car will have more of a crossover look than the entry level hatchback and will differentiate by class leading looks in its range. The car will measure approximately 3.4 meter, which is close to Alto 800’s 3.395 meter length, but the major point here is it will have a ground clearance more than any of the entry level hatchback so that the car can tackle our Mars inspired Indian roads.
The big news is Renault’s new hatchback will come with all new 3 cylinder 800 cc petrol engine that will come with an AMT transmission option also along with 5 speed manual gearbox. This offering on entry level hatchback will also put the competition to Alto K10 AMT. The car will be manufactured in the company’s Oragadam facility in Chennai.
The low cost car will be priced between 3-4 lakhs and will be expected to hit the market in the third quarter of 2015. Current problems for Renault are, a strong dealership network and a product pitching against Maruti’s car that is a major choice of all first time car buyers. The company plans to work on dealership network and a marketing strategy to loose the grip of Maruti Alto as first choice of first time car buyers.
