India Yamaha Motor has launched the 2015 Yamaha R1 and R1M superbikes in the country. The latest generation R1 costs INR 22.34 lacs and has gone on sale in two colors – Racing Blue and Racing Red. The racier R1M, on the other hand, can be yours for INR 29.43 lacs and is available only in Silver Blu Carbon paint job. (All prices are ex-Showroom, New Delhi). These bikes come to India via CKD route and have taken only a few months to come here, since they were first unveiled at the last year’s EICMA in Italy.
The 2015 Yamaha R1 is powered by a 998cc, liquid-cooled, parallel four cylinder engine that has a maximum power of 200 PS at 13,500 rpm and a peak torque of 112.4 Nm at 11,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Both the new bikes measure 2,055 mm in length, 690 mm in width and 1,150 mm in height. They have a wheelbase of 1,405 mm and the new generation R1s are built around an aluminium deltabox frame.
While the R1M shares its engine with the cheaper R1, it is much racier and is more race-ready in nature. The R1M, which is better suited to racetracks, gets some carbon-fibre bits and more electronic aids. The R1M also gets a higher seat height of 860 mm, an increase of 5 mm over its standard sibling. Also, R1M, in comparison with R1’s 190/55 spec rear tire, gets a wider 200/55 spec tire.
