It’s a creation of Ford’s SVT group, the company has officially pulled the cover off its 2016 Mustang Shelby GT350 track scalpel last week. The GT350 picks up the mantle of the amazing Mustang Boss 302, this is a magnificent and muscled car made with high precision which gives fine handing and track-ready end of the all new Mustang’s portfolio. It is made on the same platform as S550 that underpins the 2015 Mustang. New Mustang GT350’s hood is lowered and even the chassis is stiffened more than the regular Mustang GT. Many car manufactures has downsized their turbocharged engine, but I think Ford is up to something else, they are doing exactly opposite by going for the large traditional V8 engine in its highly anticipated Shelby GT350 Mustang. GT350 is first to use high tech MagneRide dampers that adjust their performance in a split second to offer as smooth a ride as possible without compromising ultimate performance on a winding road or the race track. The early test vehicle which was spotted testing at company’s Dearborn, Michigan, headquarters with cross drilled carbon ceramic brake rotors. The new car is loaded with plenty of the latest technology on its historic name plate. It is lighter than the Coyote 5.0-liter.
At the heart of the car it uses naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V8 engine with a flat-plane crankshaft that generates more than 500 hp and peak torque of 400 pounds-feet which is 64 horsepower more than the regular Mustang GT and the same amount of torque, also produces a unique throaty growl. This engine recalls back from the era 1960s, the 4.7 liter V8 from the original Shelby GT350 launched in 1965 that marked the foundation of the association between the Mustang and Carroll Shelby. For GT350 Ford has skipped turbos and supercharger and opt for low inertia and high rpm of a naturally aspirated mill. It comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and Torsen limited-slip differential as standard. But an engine oil cooler and transmission cooler will be available as part of a Track Pack.
Jamal Hameedi, Ford’s global performance vehicle chief engineer said “The 5.2-liter produces a distinctive, throaty howl from its four exhaust tips.” Joe Hinrichs, Ford’s president of the Americas said “We wanted to pay homage to Carroll Shelby”. Similar to the boss 302 this is not going to be cheap but also not so costly, its expected to comes $50,000. New Mustang GT350 competes directly with Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE, Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, other Chevrolet Camaros, Dodge Challenger SRT.
