The next generation of the E-Class, scheduled for a 2016 launch, has been spied testing on the Nürburgring.
The 2016 Mercedes E-Class will be based on the MRA platform. Some unconfirmed rumors suggest a 1.6 liter diesel with 122 bhp and a 2.9 liter twin-turbo inline 6 diesel with 313 bhp. We might get to see a couple of engines which are already on offer with the present E-Class. Owing to the new platform and new technology, the car will weigh about a 100 kg less than the present version.
On the design front, the car remains typical Mercedes with the big grille and overall stance, but will borrow design cues from its elder sibling, the S-Class.
I would personally prefer Mercedes going back a version and getting those split headlamps back for the next generation of the E-Class.
