Yamaha will launch the new 2016 Yamaha MT-03 Streetbike by mid-2016 in India with a sticker price of under Rs 2.75 Lakh. The new motorcycle is basically a Streetbike version of the Yamaha R3 which is on sale in India. Streetbike segment is really getting attention from all bike enthusiasts in the country. The trend started with Yamaha FZ in India, which is followed by KTM Duke 200 and 390 siblings.
The new Yamaha MT-03 was first showcased at the 2015 EICMA Motorcycle Show held in Milan last month. The styling of the Yamaha MT-03 is exactly similar to its 250cc sibling, the Yamaha MT-25. Major changes from Yamaha R3 is the bike dumped the clip-on handle bars and gets the wider and a bit taller handlebar to have more comfortable street bike posture.
The power plant remains same twin pot 321 cc motor mounted on diamond frame churning 43 bhp and 29 Nm of peak torque. The motor is meshed to a 6 speed gearbox. The gear ratios are expected to change a bit to suit for a street fighter riding. To stop this much power and torque the bike gets ABS for front, 300mm disc and 220 mm rear disc brakes. The bike will come to India via CKD route just like Yamaha R3. The bike will direct compete with the Kawasaki Z250, Benelli TNT 300 and TVS-BMW G310R. The expected price tag is around 2.75 Lakhs (Ex- showroom)
