The big daddy amongst Mercedes Benz SUV’s apart from the wagon’s, the GLS is about to be shown at the Los Angeles Motor Show and the company has pulled the wraps of the new GL-Class replacement with a series of photos after numerous leaks.
The GL-Class nomenclature is changing with the company’s measure to uncomplicate the nomenclature and various classes. The company has started using the last letter, ‘S’ in this case as to define which class of sedan it is based on, also helping state the level of luxury in the SUV. The GLS class photos were doing the rounds of internet for some time now.
The new GLS will be offered in four engine specs. The base model is the GLS450, with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 producing 362 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. Step up to the GLS550 and you get 455 hp and 700 Nm of torque. There’s a six-cylinder diesel option in the GLS350d, good for 255 hp and 700 Nm. And the performance flagship is the new Mercedes-AMG GLS63, with 577 horsepower and 760 Nm of torque.
The monster SUV looks aesthetically good-looking in the pictures released by Mercedes Benz. The headlights are in line with the S-Class design, making up the space between them two is a large two-slat chrome grille on a black mesh background. The slats have been slats have been slit into three making it disparate from others. On the sides, it has one single clean line flowing across the length and the tail has redesigned taillamps and bumper. The interior too, has got a lot more swanky with all the latest tech and gizmos.
Mercedes has fitted the GLS with all its latest electronic systems, including Crosswind Assist with Attention Assist, Brake Assist BAS, Pre-Safe braking, Collision Prevention Assist Plus. Distronic Plus with Steering Assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic assist, active blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and more comes with the optional driver assistance package.
