Reborn Italian brand SWM- Speedy Working Motors started restarted its production for the first six new models and expected to go on sale by the first quarter of 2017 in India. 2017 SWM Grand Milano 440 spotted in suburbs of Pune doing testing rounds for homologation and certification purpose. The motorcycle combines Italian styling and Chinese funding just like Benelli. If you can remember 1980 motorcycle era and still looking out for motorcycles like Honda XBR500 or Yamaha SR500, this is the motorcycle for you.
Powered by an air-cooled single cylinder 440cc block, the motorcycle is assembled by Italian brand SWM but using some Shineray parts from China. A four valve SOHC comes up with Euro4 norms and gets a fuel injection as a saviour. The single cylinder engine produces 35bhp and it is seriously quicker than Royal Enfield Continental GT.
The frame is an interesting blend of modern yet retro tubular steel twin shock frame with adjustable USD forks and top spec Brembo front disc brakes. The test motorcycle spotted was a mix of bronze and black promotion colour with twin pipe at rear.

What is SWM?
SWM was founded in 1971 but, as with many small European manufacturers of that era, it was a short-lived existence and the firm finally collapsed in 1984. SWM emerged from the shadows at the 2014 Milan Motorcycle Show, now under Chinese ownership, but with an Italian engineer heading up the mechanical side of the business. Now enjoying a new lease of life with Chinese funding, Italian engineer Ampelio Macchi is heading the comeback. He has previously worked with Aprilia, Cagiva and Husqvarna and is working on the engineering side of the bikes along with parent company Shineray, which already builds a number of motorcycles and quads. The model range includes the retro-inspired Gran Milano 440, RS 300R, RS500R, Silver Vase 440, SM500R and the RS650R, which use a mix of air/oil-cooled and liquid-cooled engines.
