Adventure touring is the new ‘it’ thing. Everybody wants to go on road-trips and adventure biking trips, off-roading and what not. Until now, we had to use our good old daily commuters for these trips as well, now we have something that could tackle such terrain effortlessly; Royal Enfield Himalayan. This bike is unique in a lot of different ways. Get the lowdown on the RE Himalayan!
The upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan will come equipped with a 410cc mill capable of pumping out 28bhp and around 30Nm of torque. This is a totally new engine developed by Royal Enfield features over head cams. Till now all RE engines were push rod type mechanisms for the cams. The engine also comes with black coating now.
The RE Himalayan will get long travel suspension at the front and first time in history of RE, this bike will come up with mono shock at the rear end. The front suspension is purely meant for those roads typically in the off-road section of Leh-Laddakh ride where the ride quality should be really comfortable. The suspension setup makes the RE Himalayan rider to sit upright position that will be helpful for long rides in any terrain.
Well, you got a good engine, good suspension setup along with good brakes too. This time RE has offered non conventional brake setup in Himalayan compared to other RE bikes. The front brakes are Brembo petal brakes and on the left side of the bike and rear brakes are also Brembo on the right side of the bike. This cross brake arrangement will make this RE stop more efficiently than other bikes. We also expected that RE will offer ABS as an option on this model, but thats not going to happen anytime soon.
4. Fuel tank Capacity
Being an adventure tourer RE Himalayan will come with 17+ liter fuel tank capacity and fuel economy of 30kmpl. With one full tank you can easily reach Pune to Goa. The design of fuel tank looks compact but its tall and can easily have 20 liters of fuel including reserve.
This is the design evolution in RE and it comes as Himalayan. Almost after 2 decades, we see a product that looks modern and so not typical Royal Enfield. The minimalistic design approach is to keep bike weight low and to make it better handling RE. Even the fuel tank and headlmap casing comes with a frame that will act as crash protector. High ground clearance, low center of mass and center balanced engine mass will make it the best handling and fastest RE ever.
