Fiat is going in for strategy overhaul for the Indian market with the launch of Abarth range. Abarth in layman terms makes Fiat cars go faster and more enjoyable. Fiat recently launched the Abarth 595 Competizione and is about to launch the second from the performance range, Abarth Punto on 19th October.
Technical specifications on the hatch make it the fastest small car on sale currently. Abarth Punto is powered by 1.4 litre T-jet engine producing 145 bhp of power and 212 Nm of torque will make this car throw the competition out of the water. It accelerates to 100 kmph in just 8.8 seconds which is 2.2 seconds less than the Polo GTI.
Abarth Punto will sport 16-inch alloys with Scorpion Sting design and disc brakes on all four wheels to stop this beast make a good sight for the eye. Suspension setup has also been altered for racetrack. This has been achieved with different dampers and lower ground clearance measuring 155 mm which is 20mm less than the Punto Evo. The visual differentiators of this car will be the Abarth decals all around with iconic Scorpion on the top of the roof. Abarth treatments extends inside the cabin too as it gets special black upholstery with red and yellow stitching and additional supportive cushioning. Abarth will throw in an electric boot for additional convenience.
Fiat India has started taking bookings for Abarth Punto at Rs 50,000; the official car also made its appearance on the company website. The Punto Evo Abarth will take on the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and will be about 40bhp more powerful than the VW’s hot-hatchback.
There has been no word on the pricing but reports suggest it will be priced under the 10 lakh mark. The lower, the better for Fiat which has really struggled to show respectable numbers on the sales chart.
