Abarth is to Fiat what AMG is to Mercedes and Scuderia is to Ferrari. THat’s right. The performance division/brand from these manufacturers which usually make fast cars go insane. Fiat had been toying with the idea of bringing the Abarth to India fo sometime now and launched the 595 Competizione last month. Models to follow were the Abarth Punto and Abarth Avventura which are slated to launch this October.
Now we have got the specs which can confirm that the Abarth Punto will be the fastest, hottest hatch on sale in Indian market when launched. 145 bhp of power and 212 Nm of torque will make this car throw the competition out of the water. It accelerates to 100 kmph in just 8.8 seconds which is 2.2 seconds less than the Polo GTI. The Maruti Swift and the Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz times are not even mentionable when compared to the Abarth Punto. The company claims that the Punto will return an economy of 16.3 kmpl which is really good for this sort of performance.
Abarth Punto will sport 16-inch alloys with Scorpion Sting design and disc brakes on all four wheels to stop this beast make a good sight for the eye. Suspension setup has also been altered for racetrack. This has been achieved with different dampers and lower ground clearance measuring 155 mm. The visual differentiators of this car will be the Abarth decals all around with iconic Scorpion on the top of the roof. Abarth treatments extends inside the cabin too as it gets special black upholstery with red and yellow stitching and additional supportive cushioning. Abarth will throw in an electric boot for additional convenience.
Considering all this, the only question to remain unanswered is the price tag. There has been no word on the pricing but we estimate it to be somewhere in the 10-12 lakh range. The lower, the better for Fiat which has really struggled to show respectable numbers on the sales chart.
