Honda has unveiled the all-new 2018 Amaze compact sedan at the Indian Auto Expo. The car is based on an all-new platform, and gets a brand new look. The official launch of the all-new Amaze will happen in India later this year. It has been designed and developed by Honda’s Thailand division. The new car continues to measure less than 4 meters in length and will compete with the Maruti Dzire, Ford Figo Aspire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Tigor and Volkswagen Ameo.
Looks wise, the new Amaze borrows styling cues from the much more premium Honda Civic, This is a good thing. The coupe like roofline of the new Amaze gives it a distinct look, which will make it stand out from other compact sedans in the market. The front and the rear styling of the car clearly seems inspired by the Civic although some won’t prefer the overuse of chrome on the front end.
Although Honda has not revealed engine and transmission details of the new car, they’re likely to be carried over from the present version. The petrol engine will be a 1.2 liter i-VTEC unit with 87 Bhp and 110 Nm on tap. Both 5 speed manual and CVT automatic gearbox options will be offered with this engine. The diesel will be a 1.5 liter i-DTEC turbodiesel unit with 100 PS of peak power and 200 Nm of peak torque. A 5 speed manual is likely to be standard on the diesel although Honda may also look at a 6 speed manual from the Jazz/City.
In terms of features, Honda is expected to offer a new touchscreen infotainment unit, standard ABS, twin airbags, reverse parking sensors, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, power steering, power windows and ISOFIX child seat provision on the new car. In terms of pricing, the new Amaze could get slightly pricier, with a starting price of around Rs. 5.6 lakhs for the base petrol variant and Rs. 6.5 lakhs for the base diesel variant.
