Honda will offer a CVT automatic gearbox on the all-new, 2018 Amaze compact sedan. This is the first time that a CVT automatic gearbox is being offered on an affordable diesel car in the Indian market. The Amaze Diesel CVT will be launched soon. Even the petrol variant of the Amaze will be offered with a CVT automatic gearbox. However, manual gearboxes will still be standard on both the petrol and diesel variants of the all-new Amaze. Apart from the Dzire, the new Amaze will be the only car in its segment to offer automatic gearboxes on both petrol and diesel models.
Diesel cars in the sub-20 lakh segments have traditionally used torque converter automatics or automated manual transmissions. A CVT on a diesel is expected to make the car very refined because the diesel has enough torque to allow the engineers to tune the CVT unit to minimize the rubber-band effect associated with such gearboxes.
The Amaze CVT Diesel is expected to be a class leader in refinement levels and is expected to be much smoother than the Maruti Dzire Diesel AMT, it’s chief rival in the Indian market. AMTs continue to suffer from jerky shifts, especially on the diesel powered models.
The all-new Amaze features a brand new design. It also gets totally revamped interiors. Additional features are also expected to be on offer. The car will be launched in India over the next few months. Pricing and variant information is expected to be revealed closer to launch.
The new Amaze will be powered by a petrol engine displacing 1.2 liters and producing 87 Bhp-109 Nm, while a diesel engine will also be offered. The diesel will displace 1.5 liters and produce 100 PS and 200 Nm. The car will be a sub-4 meter compact sedan, designed to offer hatchback buyers an affordable upgrade to the sedan class.
