All-new 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift launched in India with a very attractive price tag

Maruti Suzuki has just launched the hotly anticipated, 2018 all-new Swift at the Auto Expo. Prices of the car start from Rs. 4.99 lakhs for the base petrol version while the top-end diesel model is priced at Rs. 8.29 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. There are 12 variants of the car, with Petrol-MT, Diesel-MT, Petrol-AMT and Diesel-AMT combinations on offer.

These prices are introductory and may go up in the coming months. Maruti dealers around India are already accepting bookings for the new car. The booking amount is Rs. 11,000, and is refundable upon cancellation. The Swift will be produced at Maruti’s Hansalpur factory in Gujarat.

The petrol powered Swift uses a 1.2 liter K-Series, 4 cylinder engine with a peak power rating of 82 Bhp and a peak torque rating of 113 Nm. The diesel powered models use the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet turbocharged engine with a peak power of 74 Bhp and a peak torque of 190 Nm. 5 speed manual and AMT options are available with both the petrol and turbodiesel engines.

The new Swift is based on the HEARTECT platform, which uses high-tensile, lightweight steel to keep weight low. This platform has resulted in the 3rd generation car losing about 80 kilograms of weight compared to the older model. Both pick-up and mileage has improved. The petrol Swift gets an ARAI mileage figure of 22 Kmpl while the diesel is much more fuel efficient, with a 28.4 Kmpl figure.

The new car gets a number of improvements over the outgoing version. 1. It is more spacious due to the 20mm additional wheelbase and smart interiors packaging. 2. The boot space has gone up by 50 liters. 3. The interiors are all-new with a lot of new features and infotainment options. 4. Automatic variants are available on both petrol and diesel models. 5. The new Swift looks very stylish, and sporty.
