We told you back in January 2014 about Tata Motors new SUV (Aspirational Utility Vehicle) based on JLR platform and we told you about its underpinnings will be borrowed/used as benchmark for Q501 and Q502 SUVs. Now there is some more light on its engine details. The new SUVs from Tata Motors Q501 (5 seater – Nexon) and Q502 (7 Seater) will use Fiat’s developed 2.0 liter engine and there is the possibility of both these new SUVs will get manufactured in Fiat’s facility in Rajangaon.
The new 2 liter diesel mill is aluminium head and cast iron block and has 4 valves per cylinder with DOHC layout. The engine was developed back in 2008 and Fiat is already using it in global market with vehicles like Jeep Renegade and Alfa Romeo cars. The engine is available in a wide range of tunning from 110 bhp-260Nm to 192 bhp-380Nm.
As Fiat also plans to introduce Jeep Renegade in India by 2016, Fiat India will localize this engine for their SUVs and Tata Motors SUVs to make it more cost effective rather than importing from some other plant of Fiat outside India.
