German car manufacturer Audi has revealed on its Facebook page that it will launch the RS7 sportback on the 6th of January, 2014.
Let me throw some numbers at you to make you start drooling: 4.0 litre Twin-turbo V8, 552 bhp, 0-100 kmph in 3.9 sec, top speed electronically restricted to 250 kmph (can be removed, details below), expected price INR 1.0 to 1.4 crore.
In comparison, the R8 belts out a total of 520 horses. The RS7, after its launch, will be the most powerful Audi offered in the country. The engine is a souped up version of the one in the S6 and a similar one is present in the Bentley Continental GT. For those of you concerned, this does come with Cylinder-on-demand system. The car will shut down half of its 8 cylinders when the load on the engine is low. This helps in achieving a higher overall fuel economy.
The torque figures are equally impressive, 516lb-ft@ 1750 rpm. The max power (552 bhp) comes at 5700 rpm. If you are interested, a package for power boosting purposes will be offered. It will disable the speed limiter among other things, to take you to a staggering 304 kmph!
All this power is delivered to the wheels using an 8-speed ZF auto box. The RS7 will also have the company`s Quattro system as standard. The Quattro is more of a necessity than an added feature since taming this beast is quite a task.
The car has twin oval exhaust tips, bigger air intakes and a honeycomb grill to distinguish it from its sibling, the A7. The car will come with 20 inch wheels with an option to upgrade to 21 inches. Add-on packages will include a rear diffuser and a different front splitter.
The RS7 will be quite a treat since it offers practicality along with those performance numbers. The car has four doors, comparably decent amount of interior space and a 530 litre boot.
Recently Audi made history by selling more than 10,000 (10,002 to be precise) cars in one year. It became the first luxury car maker in the country to achieve this milestone. The company reported a growth of 11% since 2012, when it sold 9003 cars.
The BMW M5 and the Mercedes E63 AMG better watchout. Audi had a wonderful 2013, and with the launch of the RS7 the company seems to be preparing for an even better 2014.
