Volkswagen is set to launch the iconic Beetle in India once again as its first stint came to an end as soon as stock ran out after the launch in 2009. The launch will happen in a few days from now, but a blog has got hold of the brochure, giving out all the details about the vehicle.
Volkswagen Beetle entered India in 2009, starting a niche category of iconic hatchbacks. But the price tag deterred lot of buyers. But with Mini Cooper seeing reasonable sales, Volkswagen will re-introduce it with one single 1.4-litre petrol variant. a 1.4-liter TSI four-cylinder engine that is capable of 147 hp, paired to a 7-speed DSG gearbox with paddles shifters as standard. The car retains its much-revered shape in prominence with subtle changes like a rakish roofline and a rear spoiler to break the monotony of the slope. The Bug will sit on 16-inch 10 spoke alloy wheels.
It will come with 2 door, 2+2 seating and heat insulating glasses on the side and rear windows. Bi-Xenon headlamps with LED day time running lights will be a standard fixture. On the interior, it features a leather-wrapped steering wheel with controls for telephone, radio and gearshift. The ambient lighting can be changed in three colours. Illuminated front visor, two reading lights, chrome highlights for rotary switches are amongst the other features.
Safety features include central locking, hill hold control, ABS, airbags, ESC, EDL, EDIC, disc brakes, three-point seatbelt with belt tensioners, front and rear head restraints, front and rear park distance control with acoustic warning, engine immobiliser, front underbody guard, brake pad wear indicator.
The VW Beetle will be in competition with the Mini Cooper for the luxury hatch segment. The company will bring it as a completely built unit and we expect it to be priced around Rs 30 lakh.
