The all new BMW 1-Series entry-level luxury compact sedan was spotted testing in heavy camouflage and the first thing that comes to mind is that, BMW plans to introduce the 1-Series sedan to compete with the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class in the entry-level luxury compact sedan market, which seems to be attracting a lot of customers.
BMW plans to introduce the 1-Series sedan based on the front-wheel drive UKL platform, as seen on the 2014 Mini Cooper and also will feature in the 2016 BMW 2-Series Active Tourer.
BMW has not revealed any specifications whatsoever, but we assume that the 1-Series sedan should come with the same engine lineup like that of the 2-Series Active Tourer, which includes a series of, 3-cylinder and 4-cylinder turbocharged units. The top-end variant may be a 225i, 4-cylinder engine, with 231 HP, with an all-wheel drive and a front-wheel drive option for the first time in BMW’s lineup. You can cross your fingers and hope to expect a 1-Series M Performance Model, with a 4-cylinder unit, tuned to around 300 HP. These are all just speculations and further down, we shall know what is actually going to be fitted under the hood.
The BMW 1-Series sedan, because of its heavy camouflage does not reveal anything about its design features, but the 1-Series sedan seems to be smaller than the current 3-Series and also features a high boot lid at the rear end, compared to the rest of the body.
Even though nothing much can be said about the BMW 1-Series sedan as of now, but one thing is for sure- the three biggest car manufacturers will face each other to create a market for their entry-level compact sedans. BMW may plan to launch the 1-Series during the latter half of 2015 or early 2016 in the U.S market- as the 2017 BMW 1-Series sedan, priced approximately around the $ 30k bracket.
