Chevrolet forayed into the full-size SUV segment in India with the launch of Trailblazer. The 2016 Chevrolet Trailblazer was launched digitally on amazon.in at Rs 26.4 lakh. The company plans to sell its newest offering through the digital platform along with existing dealerships across the country.
The SUV will be focussed more on people driving it on tarmac rather than in mud, as the company has decided to bring in only one variant of the car which will be a 2WD version only. The 7- seater SUV will be powered by 2.8-litre Duramax DOHC turbodiesel engine good for 197bhp and a massive 500 Newton-meter of torque. Trailblazer will come with an automatic gearbox only. The dimensions of the Trailblazer are bigger than its toughest competitor and existing largest selling SUV in this segment, the Toyota Fortuner. The Trailblazer measures 4,878mm in length, 1,902mm in width and 1,838mm of height. It comes with 2,845mm wheelbase and has a ground clearance of 241mm which is the highest in the segment.
On the inside, it will have a 2+3+2 seating with a dual tone, black and beige dash with a 7-inch touchscreen display. It will come with steering mounted controls and AC vents on the back row.
The 2016 Chevrolet Trailblazer will boast of features like Electronic Stability Control, Anti-lock Braking System, Hydraulic Brake Assist, Traction Control, Dynamic Rear Brake Proportioning, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Panic Brake Assist, Engine Drag Control, Hill Descent Control andDriver and Occupant Air Bags.
The fight is against the Fortuner and Chevrolet has covered most of the bases, providing a powerful engine with a lot of power on tap and the level of technology and safety equipment. The company has begun the manufacturing of the SUV at its plant in Talegaon and is expected to give Toyota Fortuner a tough fight. The only area that it lags behind is not having an all-wheel drive option for this big burly SUV. However, there is a possibility of Chevrolet adding that option in near future.
