Holy Lord! This is the car McLaren claims will soon be crowned as the “best driver’s car in the world”- the unbeatable McLaren P1 GTR. McLaren unveiled this mad beast at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California. The P1 GTR showcases the just how far McLaren has gone to create the ultimate racetrack car.
The McLaren P1 GTR comes almost two decades after the original F1 GTR won the Le Mans back in 1995. Even though the current road-going McLaren P1 is said to be one of the wildest and most powerful machines in the world, the P1 GTR has surpassed all definable boundaries. With no need of complying with any road-going legal constraints or abide by any racing rules, the P1 GTR takes everything not to another level but to the utmost extremes that one can imagine.
What supplies the surplus power to this mean machine is a twin-turbocharged, 3.8 liter, V8 engine and an electric motor which is tuned to produce a mind-boggling 986 BHP (1000PS) of power. McLaren is yet to reveal the performance figures, but the P1 GTR will trump the road-going P1’s 0- 100 kmph of 2.8 seconds.
The McLaren P1 GTR comes with an advanced aerodynamic design structure which provides maximum downforce and minimum drag. The front facade of the P1 GTR is 80mm wider and sports a new GT-style front splitter, radiator ducts to help cool the brakes, active aerodynamic “flaps” under the car and various other scoops and blades that help the air flow smoothly down the side panel and wheel arches, along with eye-level side view mirrors and a snorkel air intake mounted on the top of the car.
At the rear, the P1 GTR gets a larger fixed-height hydraulically operated DRS wing, extended air outtakes at the lower corners, a redesigned rear diffuser and a pair of straight cut titanium exhaust pipes, which add the aural appeal to the P1 GTR.
Along with the unmatched aerodynamic body design, the McLaren P1 GTR gets specially developed 19-inch alloy, racing-style, Pirelli slick tyres, an enhanced power delivery from the Instant Power Assist System(IPAS) and an ERS (Energy Recovery System) push-to-pass system, all when combined- offers the ultimate track experience.
Priced at approximately 1.8 million pounds (Rs18.2 crores), the McLaren P1 GTR will be offered for ownership by invite only. Each owner (lucky rich owner) will have a custom developed training program, that will include specialist driver training by McLaren’s team of racing drivers and time on the company’s high-tech simulator, to learn to exploit the McLaren P1 GTR to its fullest.
