Renault India seems to be ticking the right boxes here in India. After roping in bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor as the band ambassador for the range of products, now comes the news that it is coming up with a face lifted version for the Duster for the festive season. Considering that Hyundai launched the Creta a week ago and Suzuki coming in the fray with S-Cross, it was always going to be a cut throat competition for the Duster.
Renault left the Duster unaltered for three years and now comes up with changes and also an automatic gearbox. The facelift should make it to India in the coming months, however, it would not be the same as the euro-spec or Brazilian version.
The automatic variant will not come cheap and could be prices upwards of 13 lakh. The other trims would might also see a marginal price hike. The price rise may be in the range of Rs 20000 to 30000.
Launch dates have not been confirmed yet, but the Renault Duster facelift and the automatic variant is expected to hit showrooms around the festive season. The facelift could see changes to the headlamps and taillamps, possibly the skirting along with few changes on the interior.
The Renault Duster facelift will not see any mechanical changes apart from the introduction of the automatic transmission. The automatic transmission on offer would see a dual clutch 6-speed gearbox mated to the 110PS 1.5 litre diesel engine. It will be available only in the 2WD version. It remains to be seen if they are planning on a 4WD version.
With the competition hotting up by the day, it will be a tough ask for the Duster to maintain its market hold. If the cosmetic changes work, only time will tell.
