Benelli has been in the motorcycle business since the very beginning. But, it saw a downfall in the recent times. This was the reason the company was bought by a Chinese company. However, the Italian manufacturer is having the best times with its entry in developing markets like India. It entered into the Indian market in partnership with the DSK group and is proving to be sales hit. Seeing these things the company is trying to get back on its feet and be a leader once again. Benelli has launched a slew of new products at the EICMA 2015 so far. The highlights out of them are – the Leoncino (Scrambler), the Tornado 302 and the TRK 502. Let us see each of them in detail.
The EICMA 2015 has seen the launch of two scramblers from two leading companies so far, one of the two was the Ducati Scrambler Sixty2 and the other one was BMW R NineT Scrambler. But, Benelli is not here with empty hands. It has unveiled a scrambler named Leoncino. The Benelli Leoncino was first launched in Italy post World war 2 when people could’t afford car and the infrastructure did not support four wheels. It was a hit but it was later discontinued. Benelli had recently teased the Leoncino with a tagline, the legend is back. And yes, the legend is back indeed but in a new avatar. It looks similar to the Ducati Scrambler but there are differences in power. The Benellli Leocino is powered by a 499.6 cc twin-parallel, liquid-cooled engine that pumps out 47.6 PS and 45 NM of peak torque. The new scrambler has USD forks with 50mm travel, and a monoshock with preload adjustment at the rear and it is based on the Trellis frame. The front wheel has dual 320 mm disc with 4-piston and the rear wheel has a 260 mm disc. The bike has proper scrambler character with knobby tires and a single exhaust pipe with two outlets. The production is expected to start by second half of 2016. However, no news about Indian debut is available yet.
Benelli Tornado 302
Benelli has launched its first fully-faired sportbike since the Tornado 1130 and that was a decade ago. The Tornado 302 is powered by an in-line, two-cyclinder, 4-stroke, 4-valve DOHC Benelli engine that produces 36 PS of peak power at 12,000 RPM and maximum torque of 27 NM at 9,000 RPM which is mated on a 6-speed gearbox. There has been an unofficial claim that the bike will have a top speed of 170 km/hr. It is expected to weigh 182 kg. The suspension system has an upside down 42 mm forks at the front and a lateral monoshock at the rear with an adjustable preload. The braking department is handled by a 260 mm floating discs with four pistons at the front and a single 240 mm single piston disc at the rear. ABS is expected to be standard. The bike is riding on 17-inch wheels. The bike is expected to launch early this year and is sure to come to India due to its small capacity.
The new adventure bike from Benelli was unveiled today at the EICMA 2015. This bike is powered by a fuel injected 500 cc, twin-parallel with four valves per cylinder, DOHC setup. This engine produces 47 PS @ 8,500 RPM and a peak torque of 45 NM @ 4,500 RPM. The bike is a hard core off-roader with 50mm USD forks up front and 144mm rear shock absorber with adjustment for preload. The front suspension also has a 150 mm stroke for off-roading. The rear of the bike is designed to carry luggage for the bike’s adventurous character. The bike is expected to be launched next year. It is expected to come to the Indian market provided that it suits our fuel quality and conditions.
