[tps_header]American motorcycle manufacturer UM has launched its first bike to come to India, the UM Renegade Sport S at the EICMA 2015.[/tps_header]
UM Motorcycles recently entered into a partnership with Lohia motors to enter into the Indian market. Two bikes are reportedly lined up for the Indian voyage. The first bike to make it to India is the UM Renegade Sport S which was unveiled at the EICMA 2015. The cruiser is also expected to make a presence at the Indian Auto Expo at Delhi in February. UM-Lohia joint venture is also expected to begin the pre-booking for both the bikes at the Auto Expo itself.
The India-bound UM Renegade Sport S is powered by 279 cc, water-cooled, singe-cylinder, electronically fuel injected engine which is mated on a 6-speed gearbox to produce 26.6 PS power at 8,600 RPM and a peak torque of 22.76 NM at 6,300 RPM. The new cruiser uses a 41 mm standard telescopic fork by Gabriel at the front and a conventional twin shock set up on the swingarm at the rear. The braking faculty has an Endurance disc at the front and conventional drum brake at the rear. The UM Renegade Sport S rides on 17-inch wheels wrapped by 110 section TVS tyre at the front and a 15-inch wheel wrapped by a 140 section TVS tyre at the rear.
When the cruiser will come to India, it will roll out from the manufacturing facility of the Indian partner at Kashipur, Uttarakhand. The bike is aimed at attaining a 70% localisation so that it can be priced competitively. The craze for affordable cruisers is increasing in the Indian market with only two competitors namely, the Bajaj Avenger 220 and the Royal Enfield Thunderbird. However, the new UM Renegade is a bit more powerful than the Bajaj Avenger. But, it will compete head-to-head with the Thunderbird.
