Ford India has been testing a new variant of the recently launched, facelifted EcoSport compact SUV. Known as the Signature Edition, the car has been spotted testing by a Team-BHPian from Chennai. The main details revealed through the spyshots are that the Signature Edition of the EcoSport will feature revised alloy wheels, Signature badging on the hatch door and a black front grille on the outside. Inside, the car is expected to get blue accents on the dashboard and the door trim.
It remains to be seen if Ford will give the Signature Edition of the EcoSport changes in terms of engines and transmissions. The SUV is currently available with 2 engine options – a 1.5 liter-3 cylinder, naturally aspirated Dragon petrol motor with 120 Bhp-150 Nm, and a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder TDCI turbo diesel motor with 98.6 Bhp and 205 Nm. Both engines get 5 speed manual transmissions as standard, with the petrol motor also getting a 6 speed torque converter automatic option from Getrag.
Ford is also developing a sporty version of the EcoSport, similar to what it offers on the Figo and Aspire. The S trim of the EcoSport is expected to feature stiffer shock absorbers for better handling, and other stylistic changes to differentiate it from the regular variants.
While the EcoSport S has already been spotted testing in India, Ford has not announced a specific launch timeframe for this model in the Indian market. As Ford is not participating at the Auto Expo of 2018, expect both the EcoSport S and Signature variants to be introduced sometime later this year.
The sub-4 meter EcoSport competes with two hot selling compact SUVs such as the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Tata Nexon. New variants of the EcoSport are expected to keep the vehicle interesting for buyers. Will it boost sales for Ford? That’s something we’ll have to wait and watch for.
