It will be Harris Performance who will design, develop and manufacture race bikes for Royal Enfield for Grand Prix and World Superbike. Isn’t that great news for all the Royal Enfield lovers out there?
The scintillating moment for the Royal Enfield was on Monday when they acquired the UK based Harris Performances products, a motorcycle design and an engineering firm for an undisclosed amount. However, the company did not disclose the value of this high-profile deal. Under the terms of the deal, Royal Enfield will acquire all assets, employees, trade names, technical know-how and intellectual property of Harris Performance Products Ltd.
The Royal Enfield acquired Harris Performances had a long standing relationship with the subsidiary of Eicher Motors, Royal Enfield. And it says, the acquired firm by RE was responsible for the chassis development of the brand’s iconic Continental GT cafe racer model. Steve Harris, Founder, Harris Performances in a statement expressed his sincere gratitude on his past experience working for Eicher Motors.
Here, Royal Enfield CEO, Siddhartha Lal explaining the rationale for acquisition, “Royal Enfield is working on its new generation of products and platforms; to have the Harris Performance team dedicatedly working with us will clearly enhance our engineering and product design capabilities”. “Their proven expertise, deep insight and understanding of motorcycling and Royal Enfield will be invaluable for us in our journey towards achieving leadership in the global mid-sized motorcycling segment,” Siddhartha added
Established over thirty years ago by brothers Steve and Lester Harris and the third director Stephen Bayford; Harris Performances designs, develops, manufactures and markets road and racing motorcycles chassis and components that are marketed in the UK and exported worldwide.
The current staff at Harris Performance will become employees of Royal Enfield. They will be responsible for the performance and development engineering for Enfield’s new range of motorcycles. Alongside successful relationships with Royal Enfield, Harris performances has become the only motorcycle chassis and component manufacturer from UK to have been officially commissioned by Yamaha, Suzuki to design, develop and manufacture race bikes.
