Hero MotoCorp reveals XPulse on-off road motorcycle’s engine details

Hero MotoCorp’s big unveil at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo will be the on-off road motorcycle – the XPulse 200. The XPulse was showcased as a concept at EICMA 2017, and is likely to be launched in India by the middle of 2017, after the Xtreme 200R.

At the unveil of the production-spec Xtreme 200R that happened days ago, Hero MotoCorp revealed that the XPulse will also feature the same 200cc four stroke engine that the former uses. The 200cc engine is air cooled, and carbureted, and produces a peak power of 18.1 Bhp at 8,000 rpm and 17.2 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. A 5 speed manual gearbox comes standard with this engine.

On the XPulse, Hero may tweak power and torque outputs to favour the low end and mid range as that’s what most on-off road conditions require. Expect suitable sprocket and gearing changes to achieve that. Notably, the engine has been designed in-house by Hero, at the company’s Jaipur Research and Development center.

While power and torque figures of Hero’s new 200cc motor are nothing to write home about given that competition offers much more powerful engine, the low state of tune is expected to ensure longevity and reliability. Moreover, it’s expected to be just enough for the XPulse, which is likely to weigh about 140 kilograms.

Like the concept revealed, the XPulse will be a high-riding motorcycle with ample ground clearance and a tall seating position. It is expected to offer excellent visibility to riders and also allow them to go off the beaten path. Long travel front and rear suspension will be standard. Telescopic front forks and a monoshock rear will be offered, both items similar to the ones found on the Xtreme 200R, whose platform will form the base of the XPulse. However, the XPulse is expected to be pricier than the Xtreme 200R, at around Rs. 1.1 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi.
