Honda`s much awaited MPV, the Mobilio was recently spied on Indian roads. This gives a confirmation on behalf of the company that the Mobilio will be launched in India soon. Some reports suggest the launch may be as close as the second half of the next month, July. The car in the image has i-Dtec badging which means it has Hondas smooth Diesel Engine. The trim level was V, which is one of the highest trim levels across all Honda models. It includes rear view camera, alloy wheels and fog lamps.
The Mobilio has been awaited since it showcase at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. The car is based on the Brio platform which supports both, petrol as well as diesel engines. It has three rows of seating and being a Honda, you can be sure of comfort in all of the three rows. The car will directly compete with another Japanese car, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, which has turned out quite a hit among Indians with large families.
The petrol engine for the Mobilio will be sourced from the City, a 1.5 litre block which produces 119 ps of power and 145 Nm of max torque. The petrol will have an option to choose between a manual 5 speed gearbox or a CVT automatic gearbox. The diesel on the other hand will only be available with a manual gear box. The diesel engine will be the 1.5 i-Dtec motor, which is employed in the City and the Amaze, will produce 100 ps of power and 200 Nm of torque.
High economy will be one of the Mobilio`s USP with the diesel delivering 25 kmpl and the petrol upto 18 kmpl.
The other cars which the Mobilio will go against is the Nissan Evalia and the Chevy Enjoy. The Mobilio will be slotted in the INR 6 to 9 lakh price bracket.
Honda will follow the launch of the Mobilio with the launch of the new Jazz towards the festive season or end of 2014. The Jazz was a very capable and exciting car and this time around it is expected to be launched with a petrol as well as a diesel engine.
