Honda Motorcycle India just announced some staggering numbers. Honda sold 1 million Activa models in the first five months of financial year 2015-16 i.e about 6667 units every day!! This number has broken all previous records. Honda had sold 2.17 lakh units in August itself and claims that the Activa contributes to 51 percent of the scooter segment.
“The over 1 million sale-mark makes Activa the largest selling two-wheeler in the country. April through August, we’ve sold 1,001,350 Activas, registering a growth of 20 per cent over the previous year. Not just that the Activa volume has grown 20 times that of the two-wheeler industry,” senior vice president for sales and marketing Yadvinder Singh Guleria said.
Recently, HMSI achieved another landmark, selling one crore Honda Activa scooters. The Honda Activa has been on Indian roads since 2001 and is currently available in three models – Activa 3G, Activa i and Activa 125. While the Activa 3G and the Activa i are powered by a 109.2 cc motor, the Activa 125 comes powered by Activa 125 124.9 cc engine.
Keita Muramatsu, the president and CEO of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) said, “We are excited to have started the festive season on a high note, with Activa creating a hat-trick as the no. 1 selling two-wheeler of India for three consecutive months. From reactivating the scooter segment in India in 2001, Honda’s iconic Activa has slowly started penetration in rural India. Further, with the improvement in rural infrastructure in future, we expect that scooter contribution has the potential to go up further.”
