In approximately 10 days time the breed of adventure tourers in India will breath a sigh of relief. After having to be content with just one offering in the name of Kawasaki Ninja 650 , folks will finally get a taste of CBR650F when launched at the Rev fest across 8 cities in India on August 4.
The CBR650F was a big draw at the last auto expo in Delhi last year. Since then its has been a long waiting game. Honda announced the Rev Fest across 8 cities on August 4 and the website for the event has gone live. The CBR650R is proudly displayed in the background of the homepage, hinting that it may be launched on that particular day.
Until few days back there was no competition for the Ninja 650. Benelli TNT600 GT came along recently and now the CBR650F. This is proof enough that the automotive giants are finally waking up to the insatiable hunger for performance bikes of Indians. The CBR600F comes with an 649cc Liquid-cooled, DOHC four-stroke inline four-cylinder, 16 valves engine. The max power output is 87 hp @ 11000 rpm. The torque is 63 Nm @ 8000 rpm. The powerplant, with a four-into-one exhaust, mounts in a twin-spar steel frame that carries a conventional fork with 41mm tubes and clip-on bars. Dual disc brakes with 320mm rotors and 240mm at the rear ensure that this new Honda CBR650F has the stopping power to back up its performance.
CBR is going to be brought into the country via the CKD route, and localization level is going to be a lowly 5% initially. But Honda promises to increase localization over the period of time. The estimated ex-showroom price of Rs 8 lakh, is surely bit of a dampner here. We had expected it to be in the 6 to 7 lakh price bracket. But, nevertheless, having an option is better than no option at all!!!
