Porsche is to launch all new Macan in India at 2014 AutoExpo and Macan will come to India via Completely-knocked-down (CKD) route. The company plans to assemble Macan at VW group’s Audi facility at Shendre, Aurangabad.
Porsche is expanding its range to include a whole new class of vehicles. Macan is the first Porsche model to break into the compact SUV segment. Porsche is now aiming to attract a new group of customers while establishing the brand on top of the line in competitive market.
Macan was unveiled at 2013 LA AutoShow and its the sibling of the brand’s successful Porsche Cayenne SUV. Internationally, Macan is offered in 3 variants, Macan s, Macan S diesel and Macan turbo. Macan S is equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine delivering 340 bhp. Mecan S diesel is equipped with 3.0-litre, six-cylinder engine that delivers 258bhp and the top variant, Macan turbo comes with 3.6 litre V6 biturbo engine churning 400 bhp and used by Porsche for the very first time. With 400 bhp engine, Macan turbo is the fastest crossover in it’s category where company claims the sprint of 0-100kmph to be achieved in just 4.8 seconds.
2015 Porsche Macan is based on Audi Q5 and shares VW group’s MLB architecture. The two share a similar high-strength steel floor-pan, body structure together with various drive-line, chassis and electrical components. MLB architecture gives a price advantage to Macan. Porsche Macan turbo is priced at $72300 (approx 44 lakhs), expect a price tag of 50-60 lakhs for Porsche Macan in India. Porsche plans to sell 250 units of Macan in 2014. Stay tuned for more details.
