If you want a luxury SUV that can walk the talk and perform like a true breed SUV, look no further. The Land Rover Discovery will be launched in India on second September, bookings for which have already began at the dealerships. The Land Rover Discovery will be brought as completely knocked down units and assembled at the Pune plant.
Rohit Suri, President, Jaguar Land Rover India Ltd (JLRIL), said, “It is a perfect vehicle for people with an unstoppable spirit and passion to explore and discover. The launch of new Discovery Sport in September will mark another significant milestone in the expansion of Land Rover’s product offering in India.”
Discovery Sport is much lighter thanks to the use of aluminium. You can choose the mill to drive this beauty from the three different variants; 4 cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine that can produce a maximum power of 250 BHP and a 6-speed manual transmission, 2.2-liter 4 cylinder diesel engine with two tunings, one which can produce 147 BHP and the other churning out maximum power of 187 BHP mated to a 9-speed ZF automatic transmission.
The Discovery will have three row seating with seating capabilities for 7 people. However the third row is useless unless you have kids under 13 seating there. The company calls it a 5+2seater instead of a sevenseater as the last row seating is ideal for kids given the lack of space for an adult to fit in. There will be a 5-seater variant as well, which will offer a lot more boot space. It can wade through 600mm water, while the updated Terrain Response system helps it drive on different surfaces.
The car will have competition in the form of Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60. Land Rover vehicles are available in India through 22 authorised outlets in cities such as Ahmedabad, Aurangabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Pune and Mumbai.
