The codenamed Mahindra S101 (XUV100) has been spied testing on Indian roads dozen of times now. Almost entire car has been spied in bits and pieces. The new budget hatchback from Mahindra will make its debut in mid January 2016. The mini SUV was spied again by the Car India Magazine. This is time, the car spied seems to be the base variant of the Mahindra S101 (XUV100). Detailed interiors can be seen in the spy shot. Though camouflaged, it reveals all we want to know.
To begin with, the interiors of the Mahindra S101 (XUV100) is something out of Mahindra tradition. The handling is controlled by a new three-spoke steering wheel. The knobs for AC are arranged vertically in a straight line. The most different yet disappointing detail is the column mounted gear lever. This will obviously make shifting more convenient and comfortable. However, we are not satisfied with the way it looks. The transmission in the spied image is a 5-speed manual transmission. However, some other spied images that floated earlier this year showcased the Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).

The car spied this time seems to be the base variant as it misses out some basic features such as front power windows and music system. However, the top-end variant is expected to come with front and rear power windows, 2-DIN music system with Bluetooth support and Mahindra Bluesense. The top-end will also get alloy wheels. The safety features on the Mahindra S101 (XUV100) will inculde Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic BrakeForce Distribution (EBD) and dual front airbags.
The new budget hatchback from Mahindra will be powered by an all new 1.2-liter, three-cylinder, petrol engine developed with inputs from Ssangyong Motor. It will also be offered with a mHawk 1.5-liter diesel engine that also powers the TUV300. Mahindra S101 is expected to ask for a starting price of INR 4 lakhs. When launched, it will take on the likes of newly launched Renault Kwid, Hyundai i10, upcoming Tata Zica and other in the segment.
