Mahindra finally took the wraps off the facelifted Thar today. And it is a significant improvement over the previous version especially on the interiors.
The interiors feel premium compared to the earlier one which could at best be described as ordinary. This time around, Mahindra Thar comes with a two tone interior with a black and beige combination for the dashboard, wider seats, redesigned center console, sporty 3-pod instrument cluster, new steering wheel and gear knob, re-designed AC vents, new windshield demister and door trims. The glove box is lockable and has a provision for 2-DIN audio system in the centre console that gets THAR embossed on it.
On the outside there are small but significant changes. The bumpers are plastic unlike the metal ones on the previous iteration. New- butch-looking wheel arches, clear lens headlamps, new tubular side foot steps and new turn indicators on the wheel arches.
Under the hood, nothing has changed. 2500cc CRDe engine with the same output as before 105bhp@3800 rpm and a torque of 274Nm from as low as 1800-2000 rpm. It gets the standard 4WD system with high & low ratios via the BorgWarner All-Wheel Drive system. The ground clearance on the Thar is 200mm.
The 2.5 litre Direct Injection (BS III compliant) motor cranking up 63 BHP and 182.5Nm of torque will not get the update.
The new update will be available in five colors- Red Rage, Fiery Black, Mist Silver, Rocky Beige, Diamond White.
Mr.Pravin Shah, President and Chief Executive (Automotive) Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd said, “Today as we launch the new avtaar of the ever popular off-roader, the effort is to enhance the appeal of a brand that is already a cult”
Arguably, every adventure junkie thinking of an off-road adventure has Thar as vehicle of choice in their mind. The update is certain to win a lot more fans for the Thar and Mahindra.
