Mahindra unveiled the automatic transmission variant of XUV5OO which has been priced at Rs 15.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai)
Mechanically and cosmetically everything except the transmission remains the same. The 2015 Mahindra XUV5OO is powered by a 2.2-liter four-cylinder mHawk140 diesel engine making 140 bhp @ 3,750 rpm and 330 Nm @ 1,600-2,800 rpm. The six speed automatic transmission has been sourced from Aisin, a Japanese company. The same gearbox is utilised by Ssangyong Tivoli. Earlier it was reported that the company might use CVT from Australian transmission specialists, Drivetrain Systems International (DSI) which is not the case. The ARAI certified mileage of the XUV5OO automatic is 13.85 kmpl.
The big vehicle measures 4585 mm in length, 1890 mm in width, 1785 in height and the wheel base is 2700 mm. The features on XUV5OO include electric sunroof, first in class logo projection lamps on ORVM’s, 6-way power adjustable driver seat, 7-inch infotainment system, black and beige interiors, 6 airbags, static bending lamps, projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, MicroHybrid (Start-Stop technology), Tyre-Tronics, automatic headlamps and wipers, front, ABS with EBD, ESP, Hill Hold and Hill Descent Control, alloy wheels, foglamps, automatic climate control.
The XUV5OO is now very well equipped to handle the Hyundai Creta who has generated huge volumes in its short stay of 3 months, with no signs of slowing down. The automatic variant will have a lot of appeal in the international market where, CVT’s are a preferred over stick shift. Mahindra made a total investment of 58 crores in order to bring the automatic variant to the market. The new option will be available across all dealerships nationwide from the 5th of December.
