[tps_header]Maruti YBA (codenamed) compact SUV from Maruti Suzuki was recently spied at Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.[/tps_header]
The compact SUV segment was launched by the Ford EcoSport. The segment in no time became so popular that almost all the carmakers have their own compact SUV’s now. Maruti showcased its compact SUV, the Maruti YBA or XA Alpha as known at that time along with the Ford EcoSport in the Auto Expo 2012. However, India’s largest automaker did not seem to see potential in the segment and hence the Maruti YBA is still not launched.
But, looking at the success of the segment. Maruti has decided to enter it with the YBA. The new compact SUV is based on Maruti’s flagship Swift. It is to be launched at the Auto Expo 2016. The new car was spied testing by some readers of the IndianAutosBlog at Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.The Maruti YBA is spied a lot of times before. But, these spy shots are the most revealing ones. The interior of the compact SUV is spied for the first time.

The spy shots of interiors reveal that the all-black interiors are similar to that of the new S-Cross. It has a touchscreen infotainment SmartPlay system with Bluetooth, Streaming, Navigation and Apple CarPlay feature. It also acts a display for the rear view camera. The gearbox in the spy shots reveal a 5-speed manual transmission. However, it is safe to expect a CVT option on the petrol unit like the one in the Baleno. A lot of switches and other components are borrowed from the Swift but the car is built on a new platform. It also comes with automatic climate control and cruise control only available on the S-Cross.

The front of the car has big projector headlamps. The tail lamps at the rear look like that of the Vitara. The new compact SUV will be powered by the same 1.2-liter K-series petrol engine and 1.3-liter DDiS diesel engine offered on the Swift. The Maruti YBA is expected to be launched at a starting price of around INR 5 lakhs. It will take on the likes of Mahindra TUV 300, Ford EcoSport and others in the segment.
