The good part about Mercedes designs was that they put in a lot of effort to make sure the car looked the part and kept the luxury car tag the company prides on. Even its largest SUVs don’t make you avert your eyes when you look at them.
Some people sitting in the Mercedes boardroom decided that the company needs to enter the market against the hideously ugly BMW X6 and the design team had to comply with that. The designers at Mercedes however show why they are so good at what they do. So, here it is, Mercedes` take on the Coupé SUV design style.
Compared to the X6, this one is actually very proportioned and yet sleek and mean. The car is a mixture of the stylish GLA-Class and CLA-Class and the ruggedness of the M-Class. The front is very similar to the GLA apart from the big bumper to accommodate the large air intake. The number of lines on the doors and the hood makes it look very youthful and fun. The steeply raked roofline is the main coupé like element and it neatly merges with the back of the car.
The LED headlamps and side indicators, which light up in a sequence from the inside to the edge, look very menacing in a naughty playboy kind of way. At the rear the designers were either very sleepy or just tired.Mercedes says it is inspired from the S-Class Coupé but the horizontal line design doesn`t match up to the cars otherwise good looks. Mercedes has already said that it will use the S-Class Coupé`s rear design in many of its new cars. The design of the exhaust pipes does justice to the car.
The Concept is powered by a 3.0 lt V6 engine which makes 333 horses and 354 lb-ft of torque. It uses the 9 speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox to power all four wheels. At nearly 16 feet long, it is in the same league as the E-Class, but still manages its design much better than what BMW can only imagine. The car is likely to named the MLC-Class and will be built on the same platform as the ML-Class.
The reason Mercedes displayed it at the Beijing Auto Show is that a large share of Mercedes` sales come from developing countries now-a-days including China and India.
