Mercedes has been launching products left right and centre. Yesterday the S500 Coupe and S63 AMG were launched at 2 crore and 2.6 crore respectively. Sources report that GLE 250d has been imported for homologation purposes. The SUV is expected to be launched before the upcoming festive season. The M-Class has been replaced by the GLE class.
The biggest changes has undergone the front of the car, and the redesign includes headlights, grille, bumpers and hood. The changes are much more discreet in the back and features slightly redesigned brake lights and bumper, while the redesign of the exterior rounds up the new roof rails new alloy wheels. The basic contours of the interior are taken from the M-Class, but Mercedes introduced and some novelties, most noticeable on the dashboard. There is now a brand new infotainment system with 7-inch screen and multifunction steering wheel, among others. Mercedes now offers a new range of colors, as well as a number of different materials for upholstery.
No changes to engine will be seen on the new Mercedes Benz GLE which will continue to sport the same engine as seen on the current ML Class. These engines include a 2.1 liter four cylinder turbodiesel engine offers 201 bhp and 480 Nm torque – GLE 250d. There is a higher powered version in the pipiline too. It is the 350d. 3.0 liter V6 turbodiesel capable of 254 bhp and 620 Nm torque.Both the powerplants will channel their power through a 9G-TRONIC autobox, sending power to all four corners via Merc’s 4MATIC system. Both the cars will be brought via the CKD route and assembled at the Pune plant.
Internationally, an AMG version is also available. GLE 63 AMG S. This one will receive a 5.5 liter twin turbo V8 engine offering 577 bhp allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 in 4.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 250 kmph.
However it remains to be seen if Mercedes Benz decides to bring the model to India.
