AutoColumn readers might remember that we had earlier spoken about Tata Motors launching a new variant of the Tata Nano with power steering.
This model has finally seen the light of the day & Tata Motors has launched the Tata Nano Twist a while ago. The Tata Nano Twist variant is equipped with an EPAS (Electronic Power Assist System) which will help drivers to zip around town and in dense traffic conditions with more ease. This system is made up of a brushless motor mounted on the steering column that relies on an ECU to give it detailed inputs.
On the engine and powertrain front, the Tata Nano Twist continues to be powered by the same 624 cc petrol MPFI unit and 4 speed manual gearbox that helps the car put out power of 38 Bhp & 51 Nm of torque. Tata Motors claim a fuel efficiency figure of 25.4 kmpl –a figure they say has been verified by the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India).
From the images that we have been able to source, we see that the Tata Nano Twist now sports a brand new shade of purple that Tata Motors is calling ‘Damson Purple’. Hope it doesn’t turn into a ‘Damson in distress’. On a more serious note though, the colour is not the only thing to help visually discern the new Nano Twist. The Twist is also offered in Pearl White, Royal Gold, Papaya Orange, Meteor Silver and Dazzle Blue.
We can also see some additional chrome accents here also with the Nano Twist sporting the familiar chrome moustache thereby linking it visually with the rest of the Tata Motors product family. Internally, we have brand new materials being used on the seat fabric and the dashboard finish. Interiors are now all beige giving the cabin a neat and airy look.
Mind you though, this finish is only available on the XT version which is somewhat similar to the earlier LX version available. Also, the ‘Dazzle Blue’ colour option comes only with sporty black interiors (thank you Tata Motors).
The Nano Twist also has added on some more features according to Tata Motors sources. So features like remote keyless entry, twin glove boxes, 4 speaker music system (Bluetooth capable), USB and auxiliary connectivity also make their presence felt. On the instruments front expect a new look instrument cluster with updated design and surprisingly enough, also a trip computer and better information features available for the driver.
To quote Ranjit Yadav, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, “The Nano Twist will redefine customer’s driving experience in city traffic with the EPAS. It comes loaded with trendy features, exciting new colour and sporty interiors”. Well Mr. Yadav, we certainly hope so and look forward to many more such innovations from you folks in the future.
