German luxury car manufacturer, Audi has finally launched all new Audi A3 Cabriolet today.The new A3 Cabriolet is on sale in December 2014, While the A3 sedan has been in India since mid-2014. Audi had revealed A3 Cabriolet at Auto Expo 2014 held in Delhi earlier this year. With the introduction of A3 Cabriolet in the country, Indian customer will have one more choice to experience driving roof down. A3 Cabriolet shares most of all the features from its sibling A3 sedan like design, transmission, engine except roof.
The new A3 Cabriolet comes with a soft fabric roof that is stretched over a lightweight kinematic mechanism made of magnesium steel, which can be opened and closed at speeds of up to 50kmph. According to company it takes just 18 seconds to open or close electro-hydraulically at the press of a button, which makes it one of its kind in the series. And definitely new A3 Cabriolet will be available for customers via Completely Built-up Unit (CBU) route and will not be manufactured in the country.
The variant earmarked for India is the 1.8-liter TFSI engine producing 180bhp of power, that was brought for display this year to the Auto Expo, while globally A3 Cabriolet is available with two smaller capacity engines i.e. 1.4 TFSI and 1.6 TDi and two larger capacity engines i.e. 1.8 TFSI and 2.0 TFSI. The larger engines are also offered with the option of Quattro all wheel drive system. It will be mated to a seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch transmission. Similar to A3 sedan, A3 cabriolet features Bi-xenon headlamps with daytime-running-LEDs along with LED tail lamps. A3 Cabriolet is made based on Volkswagen’s MQB platform that underpins other vehicles like the Skoda Octavia, the A3. Talking about interior of the car, it is quite similar to A3 sedan, which includes a pop out 7-inch display for the infotainment system (Audi MMi with touch pad), dual-zone climate control and electrically adjustable front seats. The company will offer some more features both in terms of exterior and interior including a different set of alloys, setting it apart from A3 sedan. New Audi A3 Cabriolet will be sold quite premium over A3 sedan, at a price tag of Rs. 44.75 lakh.
