The new Hyundai Elite i20 launch will happen today and here is a report on what the upcoming car would be like. The new Hyundai Elite i20 is basically the new generation 2015 i20 and India will soon become the first country to get the new model. The 2015 Hyundai i20 boasts of a completely new design, which certainly makes the car look more aggressive and modern than the outgoing model. The Elite i20 also gets some changes made to its suspension, which should translate to better ride and handling characteristics.
The new Hyundai i20 Elite will go on sale with two engine options – 1.2 liter Kappa petrol and 1.4 liter CRDi diesel. The petrol engine will come mated to a five speed manual gearbox, while the diesel motor will boast of a six speed manual transmission. Unlike the last gen car, the new i20 won’t have an automatic variant. The Elite i20 will also miss out on the more powerful 1.4 liter Gamma petrol engine. The Elite i20 will come with several new features that will make the car fairly more ‘loaded’ than the old i20. The list of these new features includes- a new entertainment system that will have a 1 GB internal storage feature, a colour display for the audio system, follow-me home headlamps, rear AC vents and a cooled glovebox. The i20 has always been among the most feature-laden cars in its segment and the new Elite i20 definitely takes it a step forward.
Talking about the new car’s styling, the new Hyundai Elite i20’s exterior design follows the Storm Edge philosophy. Storm Edge design language made its first appearance in India on the latest generation Santa Fe and is actually the latest version of Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture design language. The car’s front end looks a bit like the new Hyundai Grand i10 and gets a similar large air dam. Also, the car gets sharper headlights and a clamshell-like hood. At the sides, the car gets diamond-cut alloys and blackened B and C pillars. At the rear end, the car gets boomerang styled taillights and the windscreen, along with the blackened C pillars, give the car a floating-roof effect. The interiors of the new Elite i20 are conventionally styled but are being said to be made up of better quality materials. The design of the dashboard is somewhat similar to that of the Hyundai Grand i10, which isn’t really a bad thing.
The new car will be a direct rival of the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Fiat Punto Evo and the Renault Pulse.
