It has surely been sometime since the next generation 2016 Toyota Fortuner has been undergoing road tests. The new model is likely to make its India debut at the 2014 India Auto Expo and was recently caught testing ahead of its global unveil at Australia. The 2016 Fortuner image from the latest sighting provides us with a good look at the upcoming model’s side profile.
From whatever can be made out from the spy image that you see here, the next generation Fortuner is likely to be as long as the current model, which means it would measure around 4.7 metres in length. Also, the slightly bigger greenhouse hints that the cabin could be airier, especially at the last two rows.
Underpinning the next generation Fortuner would be an all-new ladder on frame platform, which means the upcoming model should be at least a rugged as the current version. The next generation Fortuner is likely to be powered by a new range of diesel engines from Toyota and the SUV will go on sale in both manual and automatic variants, and in both 2WD and 4WD layouts.
It maybe noted that Ford recently revealed the new Everest, which is sold as the new Endeavour here. With the advent of the new generation Endeavour, it makes all the more sense for Toyota to introduce the next generation of its highly popular SUV. When launched, the next gen Fortuner will also rival the likes of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (aka Challenger), Honda CRV and the Hyundai Santa Fe. Expect the next gen 2016 Fortuner to have a starting price of INR 25 lakhs.
