Finally, Mercedes Benz’s most awaited car is ready to hit the roads, a whole new model of Mercedes Benz C-Class sedan is launched today at a price tag of 40.90 lakh ex-showroom price. The new car was initially planned to be launched in early 2015 however the sales of the previous model was at its peak and company ran out of stock earlier than predicted. Therefore the launch for new C-Class generation is preponed. Eberhard Kern, managing director and chief executive, Mercedes-Benz India, said “the C-class has always been a best-seller and the new model interprets a new standard in modern luxury”. He also said “The new C-Class joins the latest generations of the E and S-Class to create the youngest and most wide ranging saloon line up of any automaker globally,” With this launch the company has achieved its target of launching ten cars in the Indian market in 2014. So far in the first nine months of 2014, Mercedes Benz India has sold 7,529 units. The company has expanded production at its Chakan plant to 20,000 units annually to meet growing demand in the country.
The company has launched the new C-Class C200 with petrol engine and plans to launch the diesel variant of the car in April next year. Mercedes Benz C-Class is a line of luxury compact cars produced by Daimler AG, which was first introduced in 1993 as a replacement for the company’s 190 (W201) range. The C has never been too big in its proportions and that’s true for this one as well. The company has given a lot of styling cues and whole new magnificent design derived from its flagship model S-Class. Talking about the face of the car, it gets the twin-slat grille with the prominent Merc logo in the middle including detailed LED headlights. Coming to rear part, it resembles to S-Class with newly designed rear bumper, boot lid and tail-lights. The new car will be available in India through the CBU route, the local production is expected to start next year. The new C-Class is built based on Lightweight modular platform and MRA (Mercedes Rear-drive Architecture).
The new generation of C-Class is powered with 2.0-liter, four-cylinder, turbocharged engine similar to one which is used in E-Class, that puts out 184 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque. It is mated with 7 speed transmission and comes with paddle shifters as standard. According to Mercedes Benz car will give a decent fuel economy of 14.74kmpl, reaches 0-100 kmph in just 7.3 seconds and can hit a top speed of 235kmph. The company also claims the car is the lightest in the segment.
The new C-Class consist of the latest state of the art technology which make car more sportier and even comfortable such as adaptive suspension, which make the car comfortable even over Indian potholes. For the first time with the help of this adaptive suspension, you can raise the height with just a hit of a button. There are some more comfort features are given in the car like driver and passenger electric seat adjust including thigh support, keyless ignition, full leather upholstery including seven air bags.
