The second generation of the XC90 was unveiled earlier this year in August. Since then, there have been numerous rumors on the new Volvo XC90 India launch date and joining them is a recent report from Economic Times, which goes on to say that the new Volvo XC90 India launch will take place in mid-2015. The same report goes on to state that while the new model will be launched around mid-2015, the customers of the car will need to wait till August for the new XC90 deliveries to commence in our country. The first batch of the new model will comprise of 200 top-end variants and the car will be initially available in three paint shades.
Powering the India-spec new generation XC90 will be the carmaker’s new 2.0 liter, four-pot diesel-sipping motor that has a maximum power of 245 bhp and a peak torque of 470 NM. This new 2.0 litre oil burner from the Drive E engine family replaces the 2.4-liter, five-cylinder motor. Other engines that are available on the international spec XC90 include a 190hp-400Nm D4 diesel, 254hp-350Nm T5 Petrol and 320 hp-400Nm T6 supercharged petrol. The engines will come mated with an eight-speed auto ‘box that replaces the previous model’s six-speed unit. The India-spec model will retain the all-wheel drive system.
Underpinning the new gen XC90 is the carmaker’s new Scalable Product Architecture platform ( SPA ). The SPA will be also seen underpinning many future-Volvo models.
