Spy shots of the next generation Chevrolet Cruze have been spotted for a while now but this time around with a little less camouflage. GM recently stated the vehicle is going to come with new exterior and interior styling, improved fuel economy and an improved interior compartment and more storage space.
Although disguised, we can make out that the car now sports a much leaner look than its predecessor. The large headlamps on the present version make room for a sleeker pair of lights. The front grille is similar in size to the present one but will now look much like other Chevys for the family look. Around the side, the prototype has chrome borders for the windows. At the rear of the car, the taillamp cluster has been completely redesigned and isn`t as big as before but suits the car better than before.
Overall, the company has toned down the big-butch-sedan into a more upmarket saloon car. As far as the interiors go, expect a completely redesigned look but with a bit more luxurious appeal like leather and chrome inserts. The corvette inspired dashboard will be missed by many, including us,but the one on the prototype looks like its been derived from the present version. We cannot be sure if its the new one or just put there as a fake for a test mule.
Under the hood, the Cruze will have Opel`s 1.6 litre SIDI turbo. The new Cruze is rumored to be built on a completely new platform, the D2XX developed by GM. This platform will also underpin cars from Buick, Opel and Holden. It was rumored to go on sale in 2015 but engineering problems have pushed it back to 2016.
The car will be offered as not only a sedan but a hatch and a coupe as well. Like always we, in India, will only get the three-box design. Chevrolet recently unveiled the refreshed Beat, has launched special editions of the Sail and Sail U-VA in India while parent company GM unveiled a new 1 litre turbo engine under the EcoTech family globally.
