Paddle Shifters on Maruti Baleno Automatic in the works

Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS made its debut at the 2016 Auto Expo and it’s built on a new modular lightweight platform. The new updated Baleno will feature 1 liter turbocharged 3 pot petrol motor with boosterjet technology making it more fuel efficient than its 1.2 liter petrol engine. The car is expected to come with 110 bhp with 160Nm of peak power and torque figures. As if this wasn’t exciting to Maruti, the company now plans to launch the same engine equipped with a 6 speed automatic transmission with steering mounted paddle shifters.

Baleno RS will have two major competitions in this segment, namely Abarth Punto (30bhp  more) and Polo GT TSI (7 speed DSG). Even though Abarth Punto is 30 bhp more than Baleno RS it doesn’t come with an automatic gearbox and Polo GT TSI will be killed by Maruti by pricing Baleno RS aggressively. Under the hood of current Baleno offerings is 1.2 liter K-series petrol motor and 1.3 liter Fiat sourced diesel motor.

The most spacious supermini from Maruti Suzuki India is the Baleno and its going bonkers with its sales number per month crossing 10000 units. Since its launch in last October, the car has made its premium brand image from the NEXA outlets. Even though with 9 months of waiting period customers are ready to wait despite  easy availability of Eliter i20 and Polo hatchback.
