Here’s an AutoColumn scoop. We got to know Mercedes-Benz’s future plans and we have enough of dope with us to give you first hand information. You read it first on AutoColumn. Mercedes-Benz GLK, the mid size luxury compact SUV is coming to India in 2016.
Mercedes-Benz GLK will come to India in 2016 first quarter and the company has projected to sell no less than 500 units in same year. The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLK will be based on all new MRA platform and the program name is W253. W253 will be based on MRA platform which is Mercedes-Benz’s rear wheel drive architecture.
MFA platform is front wheel drive architecture for Mercedes-Benz. Both the platforms are designed to work within Mercedes’ developing modular systems. This system groups around 90 component sets into modules such as front and rear suspension, electric architectures, full power-train and many other parts which are under the hood and body.
The use of modules with the platform strategy will drastically reduce cost and time to introduce in market for new models. Both the MFA and MRA are more conventional steel monocoques frames. Next generation 2014 C-Class, 2015 M class will also feature MRA Mid-Size platform.
GLK is not sold in right hand drive markets because of its drive-shaft position for front wheels of 4WD, which doesn’t give space for right side footwell. Mercedes-Benz Australia (right hand drive market) spokesman David McCarthy said that the next-generation GLK model is under development and it will be built in right hand drive too because of feasibility of MRA platform. The company will position this luxury compact SUV against Audi Q5 and BMW X3 and entry level premium compact SUVs like Evoque.
Mercedes-Benz will launch S-Class sedan, GLA crossover, CLA sedan and C-Class in 2014. The S-Class will be the first product that Mercedes-Benz will launch in 2014. Along with this, the company also plans to open dedicated place inside factory Chakan where all AMG cars will be displayed. Stay tuned for more news and scoops.
