The refreshed Skoda Yeti was spotted undergoing testing recently. The car was not the success the company hoped it would be, but Skoda has still high hopes from it and is working hard to launch the new car.
The main difference is the new front end which now matches the other Skoda family cars. The earlier quirky styling has made way for a simple yet very european look. The grille and the company logo just above it are similar to the new Octavia. The fog lamps are now placed low down and are rectangular in shape. The car will be available in two configurations: City and Outdoor. This particular model was the latter and featured scuff plates and added body cladding components. A slightly redesigned tailgate complete the looks from the outside.
There are not many changes inside apart from the new steering wheel and minor changes to the dials and the music system. The dashboard will have plusher fabrics in new colors than before to give a more upmarket feel. Cruise control, reverse camera assist, stop-go system and keyless entry will be some of the added features.
Under the bonnet the car will continue with the present engine option, a 2 lit diesel. The engine offers different output based on the drive configuration, 4×2 or 4×4 (AWD) . For the 4×2, the engine produces 110 ps at 4,200 rpm and 250 Nm between 1,500 – 2,500 rpm. For the 4×4, the power generated is 140 ps at 4,200 rpm and has max torque of 320 Nm from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. Reports suggest Skoda is planning to introduce a 1.4 lit TSI petrol in the facelifted Yeti.
The gearbox will also continue, 5-speed manual for 4×2 and a 6-speed manual for the 4×4. Automatic gearbox will not be offered even as an option.
The new Yeti will cost a bit higher than the present version and will sit between INR 15 lk to INR 19 lk.
The Yeti lacked what other SUVs in this range offered: huge size and road presence and the poor sales can be attributed to this reason. But in the recent years, the trend has shifted due to the launch of the urban SUVs and Skoda hopes this time around it will be a hit in the Indian market.
