Everyone wants a piece of the pie. This isn’t a fresh strawberry pie or fresh apple caramel pie. This pie is the Indian performance bike market! Kawasaki plans to dig in with their Versys250. This tourer makes perfect sense to me.
Benelli has been celebrating the achievement of selling 100 sports bikes within 3 months of opening the dealership in a couple of cities which is proof enough that there is a tremendous appetite for this category.
The aspiring middle class wants to be global. One thing that has got them hooked is touring. Quarter litre displacement bikes are perfect draw for people who cant go for a 6-7 lakh 650 cc bike.
Kawasaki is coming up with a perfect solution to address this demand. The Versys250 . Powering the Versys 250 will be the same engine found in the Kawasaki Z250. That means a 249 cc, 8-valve, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, twin-cylinder engine will propel the motorcycle. Power figures will be close to the naked bike, which develops 32 PS and 21 Nm of torque. The engine will transfer the power to the tarmac via a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The design on the Versys250 will be inspired by her elder siblings Versys650 and Versys1000. the Versys250 will be making its international debut in Indonesia sometime this year and we should expect it to hit Indian shores in the first quarter of 2016. With the expected price of about 2.5 lakh it will have stiff competition from the KTM 390 adventure when launched . All i say is , think wisely before spending that Rs 1000 note. Who knows, it might contribute for your next ride!!
